Welcome to Logan Noble’s Medium Page! Horror writer, bookworm, editor and chief of Game Loot.

Bio:

Hello and welcome! My name is Logan Noble. I am a fiction writer (horror and weird fiction), freelance content creator, and editor and chief of Game Loot here on Medium.

I’ve been writing for as long as I was old enough to hold a pen. A lot of those early stories were mash-ups of whatever media I was taking in at the time. My first long-form book — written on scattered notebook pages and jammed into a mammoth binder — was an unholy mash-up of Lords of the Rings, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy.

My first three short story sales were in 2014. The only remarkable story from that time frame was ‘The Mask of Black Satin’, which was published in Muzzleland Press’s very first anthology, Spooklights. Since 2014’s four short stories, I’ve had an additional 25 short stories published. The full list can be seen here. This link also contains my non-fiction publications.

I work in the Public Health field. I currently live in England with my wife, but I’m originally from the United States and will likely return in a few years. When I’m not writing or reading, I’m playing video games, hanging out with my two dogs, and traveling whenever possible. I love tea and coffee, and I’m a sucker for a lazy day.

My Start on Medium:

I started Game Loot in February of 2020. That was pre-pandemic, but running this publication and writing about games is the perfect outlet for me. I’ve wanted to write about video games for a long time, but my author website felt like the wrong place to do it.

So I made Game Loot! I’m always looking for writers to join the team, so please feel free to hit me up and follow the advice at this post.

What Works of Mine Do I Recommend?

If you want to see my fiction work, these are the stories I recommend:

‘The Mouth That Opens’ — A short story that has been described as Lynchian by a reviewer. It centers around a college professor and a friend who stumble across a showing for a lost horror film. After viewing it, their words begins to bleed into the film and they are drawn into a terrible fate.

Originally published in Sanitarium Magazine in 2019. It was also featured as an audio version at the Nocturnal Transmissions Podcast.

‘The Matron in the Wood’ — A short story that centers around a family hunting trip and a cosmic horror out among the trees. This is a story that roles my breakdown into a big horror story that has some interesting elements.

Originally published in The Chromatic Court anthology, edited by Pete Rawlik.

‘Ghosts on Film and Outside my House: A List’ — A piece of flash fiction that melds fiction and non-fiction together in what I hope it a haunting way. What better way to escape a haunting that to make a list of your favorite ghost movies?

‘Ghosts on Film’ is free to read over at ALL GUTS NO GLORY.

How about non-fiction?

Paratopic: Day to Day Dread

This is the article that started it all. To say that Paratopic is a walking simulator is the worst kind of generalization. This game is an indictment and exploration of what it means to be poor in the self-proclaimed ‘Greatest Country in the World’.

This is the kind of features I set out to write when I dreamt Game Loot up.

All the Games I Beat in 2020

This is my favorite article that I’ve ever written. I wrote it over the course of a year. It was 2020, so it just happened to be the most challenging year of my (our) lives. This article did wonders for me: it summarizes my first year running Game Loot, and shows all the horrors of the year up against all the wonderful digital worlds that I had the privilege to explore.

I’m already working the next edition for 2021. It’s going to rule.

Why I’m Pulling Back on my 2021 Reading Goal

My first post at the very excellent ‘A Thousand Lives’ publication! This is me at my most frank. I think topics like this are important to talk about, especially as we all find ourselves obsessed with the hustle.
